She Sells Sea Shells by the Sea Shore - What fun!

Trying saying that tongue twister 10 times fast! Do you live near the ocean or taken a vacation to the beach? If so, I am sure you have plenty of sea shells and other beach finds as keepsakes. As a kid, we did live on the beach and we spent endless hours walking the beach looking for things that washed up on the shore. We found plenty of shells and driftwood. A sand dollar was a special find as they would bury themselves in the sand and you had to have a good eye to either see the tiny bubbles or the design in the center of their shell showing in the sand. Starfish were also hard to find. We would wait until low tide and go out to the tidal pools around the rocks and would find them clinging there. Sea glass was also a special find as we had a glass jar at home we were trying to fill up. We were told that red sea glass was made gold and that it was rare - so we kept an eye out for it and felt very lucky when we did find a piece. Driftwood was in abundance, mostly from broken lobster traps. Then there were the odds ' n ends we would find - buoys, dead animals, boat pieces, and unfortunately garbage. But it was fun - you never knew what you would discover.
We made lots of crafts and Christmas gifts with our treasure. One summer we opened a small shop to sell our handmade items. We called it the DEC-DEK shop - Down East Crafts by Down East Kids. We didn't make alot of money but I think my mother was more interested in keeping us busy that summer. Living on the beach as a kid was a lot of fun and I have great memories.
