Roosters have a hidden talent - they crow at dawn each day just when the sun starts to peek over the hills and fill the sky with beautiful colors.
Here are some interesting facts about Roosters:
- a male chicken is called a rooster
- a female chicken is called a hen
- roosters are distinguished by their beautiful plumage
- they have more colorful feathers, larger combs and longer tails than hens
- they have sharp, bony spurs on the back of their legs - used to protect themselves and their flock
- rooster are very territorial and sound their "Cock-a-doodle-do" to ward off unwanted guests
- they perform a "waltz" - a half circle with one wing pointed down - to show their dominance over the hens
Folkmanis makes a Rooster hand puppet that your kids can have lots of fun with pretending to wake the barnyard at the crack of dawn with their own "cock-a-doodle-do".
